column

Joanna Cooke, TAT Marketing

Sawasdee
ka and welcome to Amazing Thailand.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand
(TAT) London are proud to be part of
one of the first Thai newspapers
available here in the UK promoting
Thai-UK relations and two
wonderfully diverse cultures. We
look forward to bringing you our
news, the latest happenings in
Thailand, style, reviews and travel
inspiration each month from our very
own Travel Thailand columnist,
Joanna Cooke.
TAT joins the local Thai community
in celebrating His Majesty the
Kings, Bhumibol Adulyadej of
Thailand, 80th birthday
on 5th December 2007.
Long live the King!
The Kingdom of Thailand, a country
with so much to offer its visitors,
remains one of the UKs top tourist
ultimate holiday destinations. We
would like to take this opportunity,
as our first column, to introduce
TAT London and give you a taste of
what we do to keep visitors
returning each year.
Visitor arrivals to Thailand from
the UK and Ireland reached 802,519
(in 2006), a 9.48% increase on 2005.
With such impressive growth year on
year we aim to send 1,000,000 UK and
Irish tourists by the end of 2009!
Thailand is a country with something
for everyone. Through our Amazing
Thailand campaign visitors to the
country are lured by its wonderful
treasures, ancient architecture, the
exotic aromas of the delicious
cuisine, heavenly white sand beaches
and idyllic island lifestyles and of
course, the unique friendliness of
the Thai people. It is not
surprising that Thailand has long
been regarded as the gem of
Southeast Asia.
While Thailand is filled with much
history and culture, steeped in
Buddhist religion, there is a new,
up and coming side to Thailand that
we are excited to reveal.
CHIC by Thailand, our glossy coffee
table style brochure, celebrates
cosmopolitan Thailand, all that is
new, boutique, hip and cool.
Thailand offers amazing value for
money so why not upgrade your next
holiday and spoil yourself in a
deluxe private pool villa or perhaps
take a sumptuous spa break, or book
a room with a view in the scenic
sanctuary that is Northern Thailand.
Shopaholics can get their retail fix
from colourful markets to designer
boutiques and impressive shopping
malls while foodies can indulge in
traditional Thai street eateries to
panoramic roof top restaurants or
dance the night away in some of the
trendiest clubs and bars in the East
Follow that cab! Look out for one of
our new 70 Amazing Thailand taxis
driving round central London. You
can’t miss them, they are bright
green and fit perfectly with our eco
Thailand campaign, showcasing
Thailand’s green credentials and
highlighting the endless
opportunities for adventure tourists
and eco explorers.
